Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Volkswagen Taos is available in three trims: S, SE, and SEL. The SUV comes standard with 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, and roof rails while moving up to the middle trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, and tinted windows. The top-of-the-line SEL trim features 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and an illuminated grille bar.
Engine (Power)
Power for the 2023 Taos comes from one powerful engine. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Models with front-wheel drive have an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive vehicles feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Volkswagen calls its all-wheel-drive system 4MOTION® and it's a solid choice if you live in an area that experiences inclement weather.
Performance
If you're seeking a smaller SUV that gets impressive efficiency for its class, the 2023 Volkswagen Taos is your vehicle. Front-wheel-drive models get an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, expect to get 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
Interior
Once you get inside the 2023 Taos, you'll be impressed at how spacious and luxurious the cabin is. Even entering the SUV is easy thanks to large door openings and the generous interior space. The front seats have a sporty design and quality support. You can easily transport lots of items in the truck since the SUV leads the class with almost 28 cubic feet of cargo space. Its rear seats have a center pass-through and feature a 60/40 split, which means they fold down mostly flat. The SUV has 65.9 cubic feet of space with those seats folded. Another beneficial feature of the Taos is its user-friendly infotainment system. The 6.5-inch touchscreen display is easily within reach for both drivers and front passengers. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity come standard as does HD radio, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can also opt for a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen display.
Safety Features
Safety features are paramount on the 2023 Taos, no matter what trim you select. The vehicle has two complete sets of LATCH connectors located in its rear outboard seats and a tether anchor found in the rear middle seat. Every Taos has blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert as well as forward collision warning with automatic braking. The base trim has an affordable IQ Drive package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and emergency assistance. The SE trim includes the IQ.DRIVE package as standard, while the SEL trim adds adaptive headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
