Trim Levels (Exterior)


For 2023, Ford offers the Explorer in an impressive eight trims: Base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, Limited, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. Starting at the Base, you'll find exterior features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, and LED headlights. The XLT adds roof rails and heated outside mirrors. Select the ST-Line, and additions include rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding outside mirrors, and a black grille and exterior trim.

The Timberline rolls down the road on all-terrain 18-inch black alloy wheels and is ready to head off the beaten path due to the addition of front tow hooks and underbody skid plates with unique front styling. You get 20-inch alloy wheels in a bright finish and chrome exterior trim on the Limited. Upgrade to the ST to get quad exhaust outlets, while the King Ranch has exterior approach lighting. Finally, the Platinum sits atop polished 21-inch alloy wheels and includes a satin aluminum exterior grille and trim.

Engine (Power)


Three engines are available for the 2023 Ford Explorer and will depend on the trim. The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine generating 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Upgrade in trims, and you can find the turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 churning out 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Engine number three is a hybrid 3.3-liter V-6 making 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. The final engine is the standard offering on the Platinum. You can also opt for a non-hybrid version on the Platinum while going with the Limited allows you to choose the hybrid.

Performance


For all 2023 Ford Explorer trims but the Timberline, rear-wheel drive is the standard offering, with four-wheel drive standard for the Timberline and offered as an option for the other trims. Drive mode select lets you customize the drive to your preference or current conditions with Normal, Sport, Eco, Trail, Slippery, Tow/Haul, and Snow/Sand drive modes. With added ground clearance, an off-road suspension, and a limited-slip differential, the Timberline is ready to tackle the off-road trails.

Interior


Beginning with the 2023 Ford Explorer Base, interior features such as triple-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, cloth seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo. Going with one of the higher trims will get you a 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, and heated front seats.

Safety Features
